A 17-year-old girl in Lagos State is alleged to have been sexually assaulted within the Ogudu Police Station. The teenager had been promised assistance by the suspect, a police officer, in getting her stolen phone back. Rather, the officer, threatened her with a gun, and locked her in his office and raped her.
Mrs. Aramide Olupona, the mother of the victim, has said that the police are attempting to conceal the accusation. She stated that, “The suspect’s wife and family have come to my shop to plead with me, but what about my daughter who was raped? The Area Commander invited me and pleaded with me to bury the case, but my daughter needs justice.”
The police authorities said the suspect has run away and they don’t know his whereabouts. But the mother of the victim is demanding for justice, saying, “My girl is distraught and has said she wants to commit suicide. I want the police to take action and bring the perpetrator to book.”
