TV Host Retracks After Saying Biden Should Murder Trump

Following the Supreme Court’s decision on presidential immunity, a BBC presenter provoked outrage by tweeting that President Joe Biden should have Donald Trump “murdered.” “If I were Biden, I’d hurry up and have Trump murdered on the basis that he is a threat to America’s security,” 69-year-old David Aaronovitch wrote on X.

The tweet was a reaction to the Supreme Court’s 6-3 decision on Monday, 01/07/2024, which stated that Trump is immune for any “official acts” he performed while in office.

Aaronovitch removed the tweet in response to the backlash and then posted another tweet implying that it was meant as a form of “satire.”

“There’s now a far right pile on suggesting that my tweet about the Supreme Court’s ruling on presidential immunity is an incitement to violence when it’s plainly a satire. So I’m deleting it. If nothing else though it’s given me a map of some the daftest people on this site,” he wrote.

David Morris Aaronovitch, aged 69, is a British journalist, TV host, and writer. He was honored with the Orwell Prize for political journalism in 2001 and named the “Columnist of the Year” by What the Papers Say in 2003. Aaronovitch has contributed to publications for The Independent and The Guardian.
